As we approach the end of 2024, we invited our people to reflect on their favorite tools and resources for personal and professional development, share what they’re looking forward to in 2025 and pass along impactful career advice. What is your favorite thing you’ve read, watched, listened to or attended for your personal development this year?

This year I read “Finish What You Start“ by Peter Hollins. My three biggest takeaways are that staying hungry for new opportunities is essential for personal growth and satisfaction, that embracing discomfort allows you to see challenges as chances to grow and that you should focus on small achievable goals and celebrate your wins.

In October I had the privilege of attending the Executive Leadership Council’s Mid-Level Manager’s Symposium. The event was an amazing experience of like-minded leaders being poured into by people of similar backgrounds, perspectives and goals. It was a stepping stone on the endless journey of self-improvement that left me actively seeking the next development opportunity.

I read "Maxing Out: How to Get the Most Out of Yourself & Your Team" by Keith Fulton. One insight that particularly resonated with me was his reflection on evaluating the true value of our work, adopting a consultant "by the hour" mindset. For instance, we should ask ourselves whether the last hour of work truly delivered value for the company. This perspective ensures we deliver value and respect the time of others, allowing them to achieve their own goals.

I had the chance to attend the VP Impact Session this fall. Several speakers talked to us about the importance of creating a stable environment, modeling self-care, and having hard conversations. One quote that stuck with me was that "diversity is not the responsibility of the diverse". It reminded me that Synchrony prioritizes diversity as part of its culture but it's up to all of us to support each other as well.

What is one thing you’re looking forward to in 2025 at Synchrony?

The Business Leadership Program has provided me with multiple opportunities to stretch myself in areas of learning I had not previously considered, or, frankly, knew I needed to consider. As I approach graduation in July, I will continually develop within this new way of working framework.

Beyond honored to be part of the group of Synchrony employees heading to Nicaragua in 2025 to break ground on a new school with buildOn—a nonprofit that has built 2,000+ primary schools accross the world. What is the best piece of career advice you’ve gotten, and how has this impacted your career?

Curiosity is the gateway to knowledge and wisdom. Fulfilling your curiosity can bring you closer to your purpose if you keep chasing the things you genuinely want to know.

One of my leaders long ago shared a quote by Winston Churchill: “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It’s the courage to continue that counts.” This is something that I continue to find meaningful and reminds me to keep going even after a failure.
