Caring For All
Leading With Our Values
Caring is one of our core values, and is exemplified every day at Synchrony, through our interactions, both big and small, with our customers, our partners and each other. We have a culture rooted in trust and a workplace committed to inclusion. Here, we encourage all of our employees to be the best version of themselves—and we know the only way that’s possible is when you feel heard, cared for, and are encouraged to follow your passions.
This value goes beyond Synchrony and how we care isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. From benefits co-designed with employees, to matching charitable donations, to providing big company resources to small businesses, here are just a few examples that we’re proud to share.
Caring For Employees
Creating a caring culture starts with listening. Whether it’s through a pulse survey, an Ask Us Anything session with our leadership, or through one of our Diversity Networks+, our employees have a tangible impact on how we care for them. Here are just a few ways our employees’ voices have helped us evolve:
Our way of working: After 85% of our workforce told us remote working is preferred, we adopted a hybrid work model that gives all of our employees choice and flexibility to choose when to work from home and when to come into one of our offices. Across all of our hubs, we designed spaces that foster purposeful engagement where teams can collaborate, ideate, and innovate. All of our hubs host regular connection days that bring employees together; helping foster existing connections or create new ones.
Co-designing benefits: After hearing feedback that there was an opportunity to better care for those going through menopause, we introduced a Menopause and Midlife Care benefit where those enrolled can get specialized guidance from trained experts who can help them navigate as their needs evolve.
Caring For Communities
Our employees share the same passion for causes that are often deeply personal; which is why their opinions inform the causes and organizations we support. Every year, we have a Season of Caring and match employees’ charitable donations 2:1. Last year, over $3.1 million was donated total to eligible charities.
We offer time off each year for volunteering and employees can take part in our DoGood Program, where every 10 hours of eligible volunteer work provides an additional $100 donation to a charity of their choice from Synchrony. Each year, Synchrony employees spend over 19,200 hours volunteering.
Caring For Small Businesses
99.9% of all U.S. businesses have fewer than 500 employees – and these small businesses face unique challenges. Small businesses are a large part of our partner network. That’s why we launched our Small Business Learning Center to provide resources for managing, marketing and growing them. “Our business has flourished, thanks to the invaluable partnership we share with Synchrony,” said Liz Mahoney, VP of Store Operations, Day’s Jewelers. “Our financing program, complemented by Synchrony’s ongoing support via a host of tools and services, has been a cornerstone to our success.”
We also award $10,000 grants to small businesses through the Synchrony Pillars Project. “Supporting small businesses is foundational to Synchrony’s commitment to helping partners grow. With these funds and our experts giving time and talent, small businesses will have the opportunity to accelerate their growth and digital transformation,” says Michael Bopp, EVP and Chief Growth Officer.
We’re proud of the impact we can make on our employees, partners, customers and communities and we’re honored to have recently been named as a 2024 Companies that Care winner by PEOPLE magazine and Great Place To Work®.
