VP, Controllership – Client Accounting Projects Leader

Role Summary/Purpose:

This Client Accounting role will be responsible for leading projects, particularly related to Rewards initiatives. This includes the evaluation of program agreements, determination of proper accounting processes and establishing sustainable procedures that meet controllership and business requirements, as well as working cross functionally with other business partners to develop the necessary structure to support accounting requirements.

This role also includes ownership of new client onboarding and process updates related to program changes, responsibility for establishing/maintaining ledger rules and rewards mapping, supporting our Share point sites and supporting other business/controllership projects.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Rewards accounting – Leading controllership projects related to Cardholder Reward programs (new programs and modifications to existing programs). Ensuring programs are accounted for consistently and reconciled according to controllership requirements in accordance with Synchrony policies.

  • Direct new Client Integrations and well as operationalizing changes to existing Client processes resulting from contract changes – includes, but is not limited to, review and interpretation of Client contracts, identifying business requirements, participating in project testing, and developing monthly processes to support client requirements.

  • Collaborate as needed with other internal teams to resolve issues, understand the causes behind issues and provide solutions.

  • Lead the creation, review and maintenance of detailed technical documentation around complex processes as needed.

  • Provide updates to Senior leaders and other internal stakeholders on project statuses.

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of end to end business process, including transaction flow, key systems and data sources in order to provide expert guidance to support the proper recording of financial activity in accordance with GAAP and SYF accounting policies.

  • Guide, mentor and develop client accounting team as needed to support process changes.

  • Be a leader in driving business productivity and controllership through process improvements, simplification and automation.

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance

  • Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience; or in lieu of a degree a minimum of 11 years of progressive accounting experience

  • Previous Client Accounting experiences, specifically in the area of rewards accounting

  • Advanced MS Excel skills (strong knowledge of complex formulas)

  • Some experience with Oracle, Hyperion, Fiserv rewards platforms (PLP/TLR)

  • Excellent communication skills-able to work across multiple functional levels, clearly communicate financial information

  • Able to work independently, lead projects and drive to completion

Grade/Level: 12

                                                            

The salary range for this position is 110,000.00 – 185,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles.  Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles.  Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months’ time in position before they can post.  All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
