Job Description:

Role Summary/Purpose:

The Java Engineer II will be responsible for development, integration and support of Web based digital applications and delivering high-quality solutions. The ideal candidate would be part of a major technology transformation team responsible for moving towards cloud platform in micro services architecture using Spring Frameworks, in memory data grid, micro-front ends, responsive design etc.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Build new web solutions/platforms and enhancements, working closely with requirement analysts, quality engineers and the business in an agile development practice

  • Ensure seamless integration of new capabilities and partner integrations

  • Develop functional and technical specifications from business requirements

  • Develop mission critical web applications / services

  • Ensure application quality and adherence to performance requirements

  • Ensure documentation, code reuse, re-factoring and design standards

  • Ensure internally developed applications are built with high standards of availability, scalability, and extensibility

  • Work closely with an experienced staff comprising both Synchrony and vendor engineering teams

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify requirements and implement solutions that meet business needs.

  • Keep abreast of emerging technologies while maintaining proficiency in existing technologies

  • Be proactive in thinking and expressing their ideas and share with others, participate innovation driven events.

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline with minimum 2 years of experience with Information Technology or in lieu of degree 4 years in Information Technology.

  • Proven experience in Java-based programming

  • Proven experience of developing and deploying large scale Java-based microservices using Spring Boot.

  • Strong knowledge of Core Java (17) and above, JEE, Spring Boot

  • Strong knowledge in React, JavaScript, typescript, CSS and HTML5

  • Strong knowledge in Relational & non-relational databases like mySQL, MongoDB, etc.

  • Ability to work/understand with CI/CD technologies.

  • Good understanding of SDLC processes (Scaled Agile) and release management processes

  • Superior oral and written communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Desired Characteristics:

  • Strong working knowledge of the Financial Industry and Consumer Lending

  • Experience with Micro-Front ends is a huge plus.

  • Exposure to any cloud platforms, AWS is an added advantage

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Training and/or Certification in JEE and web-based technologies

Grade/Level: 09

The salary range for this position is 85,000.00 – 140,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles.  Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles.  Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months’ time in position before they can post.  All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
