Organizational Overview:

This role will be with the IT Resilience group which is part of CTO organization:

  • The Disaster Recovery team is responsible for the governance of IT resilience on premise and the SYF public cloud platforms

  • Govern resilience, IT recovery/reliability capability, and conform to FFIEC guidelines

  • Build and sustain well defined processes for cloud and internal resilience/reliability and governance

  • Annual resilience requirements as governed by the SYF IT Disaster Recovery Standard

Role Summary/ Purpose:

The AVP, Reliability and Observability Engineer will be responsible for ensuring elements of the Disaster Recovery program are consistently executed in a timely manner and focusing on resilience design across the enterprise. Partner closely with the technology and functional business teams to drive resilience across SYF operations. We’re proud to offer you choice and flexibility. You may be occasionally requested to commute to our nearest office for in person engagement activities such as team meetings, training and culture events. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and lead execution of the DR and Technology Resiliency Lifecycle, including Application Impact Analysis, Planning, Testing, and Reporting

  • Ensure recovery and resilience testing is scheduled, staffed, executed, and documented, including remediation and closure of issues

  • Provide oversight to ensure implementation of business-aligned Technology Resilience capabilities for new IT services, on prem and cloud architecture

  • Partner with the Business Continuity Management program office to identify and report on technology resilience requirements and capabilities

  • Partner with Information Security to develop more contemporary resilience solutions to mitigate against advanced cyber-attacks (ex: Ransomware, Zero-Day Attacks)

  • Partner with the enterprise architecture and development teams to architect applications for high availability and resiliency

  • Identify opportunities to refine production processes and application architectures to mitigate exposure during technology disruptions

  • Collaborate with the Service Delivery team to integrate DR processes with day to day Technology Operations (ex: Incident Mgt, Configuration Mgt, Change Mgt)

  • Deliver ongoing training and awareness on DR concepts and principles for SYF management and IT staff

  • Participate in and assist with supplier joint recovery testing (as needed)

  • Provide support for internal and external data/audit requests

  • Continuously review current Program processes and identify opportunities to simplify and automate where possible

  • Proactively identify resilience risks and vulnerabilities, and assist with developing action plans to mitigate

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 6+ years of IT experience OR in lieu of a Degree, High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 8+ years of hands on, mixed  experience in technology and process excellence

  • Minimum 2 years of business continuity / disaster recovery program and related systems experience

  • Minimum 2 years of process, project and or program management experience within banking and/or financial services

Desired Characteristics:

  • Synchrony Financial or credit card industry experience

  • Ability to demonstrate strong leadership, execution, and significant business contributions

  • Strong leadership skills and an ability to work in a cross-functional environment

  • Audit & compliance experience

  • Business Continuity certification from Business Continuity Institute or Disaster Recovery Institute

  • Knowledge of the SYF organization, as well as key products or services within the scope of the Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Program

  • Experience working with cross regional teams around the globe

  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and work in a remote environment 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 6+ years of IT experience OR in lieu of a Degree, High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 8+ years of hands on, mixed  experience in technology and process excellence

  • Minimum 2 years of business continuity / disaster recovery program and related systems experience

  • Minimum 2 years of process, project and or program management experience within banking and/or financial services

Work Timings : 2 PM to 11 PM IST

(This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility and Choice offered in Synchrony India and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with India and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose. Exceptions may apply periodically due to business needs.
